My husband Rich was diagnosed with PC several years ago, early stage. He had one treatment option, due his compromised health, which was radiation. The ”good news” from the doctor aside from being caught early sounded like this, ” don’t worry, you will not die from this” ! Well, of course we both knew diabetes, gout, severe RA, and a heart condition, along with the thirty years of steroids, and insulin, would someday take its toll. BUT, we battle on and try our best to laugh at ourselves, and the situation. Rich has been bed ridden since July of 2010, due to numerous foot surgeries, toe amputations, and infections. He fights his battle daily to remain as positive as possible. He makes me strive to become a better caregiver, and in my opinion, he is one of the bravest people I know and love.

Char, that is WONDERFUL! Maybe he’ll take you out dancing on New Year’s Eve, ha-ha (uh, better not push our luck)!
Seriously, a friend of ours had diabetes & ended up having a couple of his toes amputated, at different times. He did fine & even after having retired from the railroad (& having the toes removed), he was able to work for our local park district on lawn maintenance. Granted, it was a riding mower, but he still worked circles around those young kids! And he was in his late 70′s!
I’m glad that Rich is able to be up & about while the weather is still good, so that he can regain his strength & balance with winter coming.
I should donate my reindeer slippers to him to wear…they are fluffy pink with sparkly reindeer on the toes & white maribou feather trim on the top of the foot. He would look DAZZLING!!!
Take care & I’ll catch ya later.

Neecie,
I asked Rich about the reindeer slippers, but he said not unless Rudoulph is leading the pack! We both thank you for your kind thoughts and comments all these months.
You are always so kind and considerate, not to mention funny!

Sweet, Sweet Char-
I’m so happy for Rich and you!! I wasn’t sure where he was in the recovery process, and didn’t want to ask too much. Char, will Rich need any assistance in walking-like a cane? I’m sure you’ll both be so glad that he can be mobile again
You are so kind to the rest of us, so you deserved some great news like this!!! You may have read or heard via ESPN that our (Iowa Hawkeyes) beloved defensive cooridinator, Norm Parker, had his right foot amputated in Sept. This, too, was a result of complications from his diabetes. So many people don’t realize how extensively diabetes can invade the body. You make sure you take some “Char time”, young lady-maybe a “Calgon, take me away” bubble bath or a great massage (I’ll bet your aching body could use that!!). God Bless you both, Char. Will be keeping you in my prayers to the man upstairs
Lots of love,
Ann

Dear Ann, thank you so much for your kindness all through this journey. Diabetes is a horrible thing. I pray at some point in my life, there will be less occurrence of this debilitating disease.
Thank you for the good thoughts and prayer.
