These are recipes we made at home. They range from super healthy to special treats. There are recipes for caregivers on the go, who need to keep their glucose levels even throughout the day, and recipes that I found could entice my husband to eat even when he was “not hungry”.

I will always try to include photographs of the recipe as it progresses. My father is a caregiver now, and I know there are a lot of men out there caring for their loved ones, who, like my father,  haven’t had much experience cooking. I hope you’ll find these recipes easy to follow.

Eat well.

I’d love to find a tasty veggie burger recipe. Does anyone have one to share? Our dog buried my first attempt out in our yard. (He’s our official taste tester). Perhaps Charlie is learning about composting. LOL

Janet, I have to admit – this is one thing I’ve never considered making from scratch. I don’t even recall seeing a recipe in any of my cookbooks. I like the frozen Gardenburger patties.

    Hi June,
I have found also that cooking certain foods seems to ease my stress levels at times. I will be trying the creme of broccoli soup this week. The roasted lemon rosemary chiken is a staple in my home now. Everytime I serve it to my family, I sing a different Dan song. They simply adore the chicken, but I believe they could do without my singing.!!! :) Stay well

Dear Jean – What an extraordinary site! Bittersweet and beautiful, I smiled when I noticed your recipe section! After I lost my father to cancer, and my mother to complications of a stroke and diabetes, and also following 9/11, I had the extreme unexplicable urges to prepare comfort foods. I prepared beef stew, even though I do not eat beef, and I baked apple pie even though apple pie is my least favorite of pies. Preparing these classic comfort recipes seemed to allow me to continue to treasure the love and safety of home, even during these times of extreme loss and sorrow. I do enjoy the simple pleasures of cuisine, and I am now very much looking forward to trying each one of your delicious personal recipes which you have so very graciously shared with us. With each recipe we will toast to you and Dan … with a smile! Thank you!

    Hello Jean,

First, thank you for an excellent and much needed blog for caregivers. Sadly, I just concluded my caregiver role last Monday when we buried my mother-in-law. The journy was long and hard for Jackie but her final days ended at our local Hospice where she went peacefully. I am thankful that our family was fortunate enough to have a local hospice as the facility and staff were wonderful. Jackie’s passing took place in a dignified setting surrounded by loving and caring family and friends. My wife and I will now endure many life changes as our role as a caregiver has ended. Bitter sweet to be sure. In closing, thanks for all that you do for others as your heartfelt efforts do make the world a better place. God bless and Long Life! Richard
